Important update on Covid infusion treatments at Sullivan County Community Hospital

Based on discussions with the Sullivan County Community Hospital Administrative Team and the Chief Medical Officer, and based on current information provided by the Indiana State Department of Health,

effective immediately, Sullivan County Community Hospital will only provide Covid Monoclonal Antibody Infusions to UNVACCINATED, COVID-POSITIVE PATIENTS who meet the current, approved criteria.

This decision to provide Monoclonal Antibodies to only unvaccinated, Covid-positve individuals is based on the following information:

  • SCCH has limited supply of COVID Monoclonal Antibody Medications.
  • Unvaccinated, Covid-positive patients who meet criteria are at a greater risk for developing severe disease than those patients who are considered fully vaccinated.
  • Current data supports fully vaccinated patients are less likely to develop severe disease from the current Covid variants, including the Omicron variant.

The SCCH Infusion Department will screen all orders for COVID Monoclonal Antibody Infusions and request the vaccination status of the patient.  Medication orders for patients who are fully vaccinated will be denied at this time.  The ordering provider and/or patient will be notified.

Patients who are fully vaccinated (two doses), and whose illness has progressed, should be evaluated by their primary care physician or present to the Emergency Department for potential alternative treatment.

As more Monoclonal Antibody infusions become available Sullivan County Community Hospital will reevaluate this protocol.
