Volunteering for Hospice at SCCH
Hospice of Sullivan County is in need of volunteers for its new organization. What can you do to help? As a volunteer, you could work with patients, provide office assistance, raise funds, or coordinate special events.

WORK WITH PATIENTS:

-Just sitting with patients and providing a comforting hand or voice means a lot to them
-Run errands: grocery, pharmacy, mail for patients and their families
-Walk pets
-Yard work or gardening

Your talents and preferences can be adapted to fill the needs of hospice patients.

WORKING IN THE OFFICE:

-Answering the telephone/receptionist duties
-Typing and/or filing
-Special duties such as assisting with newsletters and bereavement contacts

FUNDRAISING AND SPECIAL EVENTS:

-Planning
-Manning
-Selling

Volunteers are often called upon to work in the community to raise funds for the hospice program. The support of volunteers is vital to charitable and special events.

EXAMPLES OF SPECIAL EVENTS:

-Memorial Services
-Raffles
-Bake Sales, Cookie Exchanges

There are many ways to volunteer services or just to give a small piece of your time.

Hospice of Sullivan County provides the training, entitled "My gift: Myself", which will educate and train you to work with the hospice program, in whatever capacity you wish.

Upon completion of training, you have the option of working directly with patients or, indirectly, giving your services in other ways.

Our next volunteer class will be held February 10th and 11th, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the SCCH board room. Volunteers must complete employee requirements before participating in training. Please contact Lesley Hicks, Hospice Volunteer Coordinator, or Cheryl Ballard, Hospice Coordinator, at (812) 268-4311, Option 5, or visit the SCCH Home Health Department for more information or to sign up for this opportunity.
