Smith awarded "Best Overall Performance for CAH"
QHR, the nation's leading hospital management company, recently recognized Michelle Smith, CEO of Sullivan County Community Hospital in Sullivan, Indiana, for "Best Overall Performance" in the category of Critical Access Hospital Designation. The award was announced at the QHR Annual CEO Conference held June 4 and 5 in Franklin, Tennessee.

"With the support of her board of directors and medical staff, Michelle has guided her hospital to success with enthusiasm, dedication and an ability to get things done," noted QHR President and CEO James L. Horrar.

Previously a CNO, Smith assumed the CEO position in 2006. In the current fiscal year, she has led her hospital to achieve significant results. Among the key operating indicators, Smith led her hospital to 248 days cash on hand, a total operating margin of 7.8 percent (compared to a 3.3 percent avergae margin for other CAH facilities managed by QHR), and an EBITDA of 18.6 percent.

"These are amazing results for a critical access hospital," Horrar added.

In addition to her background in nursing leadership, Smith is also creative and innovative in her approach to physician recruitment and developing opportunities with tertiary facilities in the area.
