Sullivan County Community Hospital’s Foundation raises funds to support equipment needs of SCCH, as well as to benefit the medical needs of Sullivan County.
The Sullivan County Community Hospital Foundation has awarded two $2,500 scholarships in 2012 to Sullivan County students pursuing a healthcare career. Scholarship applications were available to high school seniors, students currently enrolled in an accredited college or technical school, and/or to non-traditional students wishing to go back to school to pursue a degree for a healthcare career. Scholarship applications will once again be available in January, 2013 for the 2013-14 academic year.
Free echocardiograms for student athletes in Sullivan County are available through the SCCH Radiology Department due to the Foundation underwriting the cost. Athletes must be at least entering sixth grade, and will only need the test done one time. Cardiologist Dr. Emmanuel Favila reviews the test to detect a limited number of congenital heart defects which may prove detrimental to an athlete’s health during competition. Appointments may be made through the Radiology Department at (812) 268-4311, ext. 2281. A consent form for the echocardiogram is available on the Radiology page on this web site, click here to view information on Radiology.
Recent SCCHF purchases include Game Ready compression units for the Southwest School Corporation and Northeast School corporation athletic trainers to use on student athletes if they are injured during a sporting event. In addition, respiratory therapy has received a booth for pft studies, and the hospital has a new awning outside of the cafeteria for al fresco dining.
Fundraising activities sponsored by the SCCHF include the scholarship golf scramble at the Sullivan Elks Club Golf Course on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at 8 a.m. and a Monster Dash 5K Run/3K Run/2 Mile Walk on Saturday, October 27, 2012 beginning at 9 a.m.(see News section for a registration form and more information on the races).
Contributions to the SCCHF may be made in the form of cash, securities, real estate, personal property, trusts, or life insurance policies. All gifts are tax deductible. When a donor’s total contributions reach $1,000, his or her name will be engraved on a star on the Constellation of Caring artwork located in the SCCH lobby. All donations to SCCHF are cumulative over the donor’s lifetime and his or her name progresses to increasingly larger stars as gifts are given.
