Sullivan County Community Hospital Foundation
Sullivan County Community Hospital’s Foundation raises funds to support equipment needs of SCCH, as well as to benefit the medical needs of Sullivan County.
Each year, the Sullivan County Community Hospital Foundation awards $1,000 scholarships to Sullivan County graduates going into the medical field and involved in the Medical Explorers group sponsored by SCCH.
Free echocardiograms for student athletes in Sullivan County are available through the SCCH Radiology Department due to the Foundation underwriting the cost. Athletes must be at least entering sixth grade, and will only need the test done one time. Cardiologist Dr. Emmanuel Favila reviews the test to detect a limited number of congenital heart defects which may prove detrimental to an athlete’s health during competition. Appointments may be made through the Radiology Department at (812) 268-4311, ext. 2281. A consent form for the echocardiogram is available on the Radiology page on this web site, click here to view information on Radiology.
Another way in which the Foundation supports Sullivan County is through the Dr. Glenn McClure Fund, which supports Emergency Medical Services by funding educational in-services for EMS providers. McClure Funds have most recently been distributed for an airway training device for Sullivan County EMS.
SCCHF funds have also recently been allocated to local volunteer fire departments for the purchase of automatic external defibrillators (AED’s).
SCCHF conducted a capital campaign to bring the newest technology to SCCH in its new facility. More than $500,000 in cash and pledges enabled the Foundation to purchase an Intensive Coronary Care Unit monitoring system, a telemetry system for ICCU and Med/Surg, a blood bank refrigerator for the laboratory, teleradiology system, osteoporosis screening software for the CT scan, and a Versaclimber for Physical Therapy. In addition, the Foundation has recently purchased digital scales for the new Fitness Center, three recliners for chemotherapy patients in the Specialty Clinic, triple IV pumps and telemetry units for the Med/Surg floor, a Crisis Patient Manikin for training in the Education department, a microscope for ENT surgeries (ear tube placement), a vital signs monitor and pediatric emergency cart for the Emergency department.
Fundraising activities sponsored by the SCCHF include the raffle of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle in 2004, and the annual golf scramble on the last Saturday in July at the Sullivan Elks Club Golf Course.
Contributions to the SCCHF may be made in the form of cash, securities, real estate, personal property, trusts, or life insurance policies. All gifts are tax deductible. When a donor’s total contributions reach $1,000, his or her name will be engraved on a star on the Constellation of Caring artwork located in the SCCH lobby. All donations to SCCHF are cumulative over the donor’s lifetime and his or her name progresses to increasingly larger stars as gifts are given. |
